OneWeb CEO Greg Wyler to Reveal New Plans for Internet in Space at SATELLITE 2015

Unveil of user terminal and project plans among highlights of interactive keynote that will detail progress on bringing connectivity to 4 billion people

February 27, 2015 – The SATELLITE 2015 Conference and Exhibition will host Greg Wyler, CEO of OneWeb, Ltd., as its keynote speaker on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Ballroom BC, in Washington, DC. During the presentation, Wyler will reveal new details regarding OneWeb’s plan to deliver a global high-speed communications network in space, providing more than 10 terabits-per-second of connectivity in its first generation, to connect billions of people in both developing and developed nations. SATELLITE 2015 attendees will also get a firsthand look at the OneWeb terminal and how it can be deployed by health centers, schools, businesses, homes and other end users.

According to the United Nations International Telecommunications Union (ITU), as of the end of 2014, more than half the world’s population lacks Internet access. OneWeb’s mission is to “enable affordable Internet access for everyone.” The new global communications network will allow mobile operators and ISPs to economically extend voice and data coverage to underserved regions, driving significant new societal and economic opportunities around the globe.

“Today, much of the world remains without access to one of the most fundamental elements of life: communications,” said Wyler. “OneWeb’s mission is to bring the entire world online to improve quality of life and spur economic and national development where it’s needed most. I am thrilled to share our vision and technology plan on stage at the SATELLITE 2015 Conference and Exhibition, which is the premier event for the satellite communications industry.

Satellite is poised to become one of the most powerful forms of connectivity on Earth, driven by innovative and compelling industry leaders such as Greg Wyler,” said SATELLITE 2015 Conference Manager Jeff Hill. “We’re thrilled to have Greg as our special guest, whose boundless enthusiasm for satellite technology and its ability to expand global connectivity to unprecedented levels makes him a perfect fit for the expanded keynote speaker program of SATELLITE 2015.”

The SATELLITE 2015 keynote speaker program also includes Virgin Galactic President and CEO George Whitesides, who will deliver a luncheon address about his company’s LauncherOne dedicated smallsat launch vehicle at the conference on Monday, March 16 at 12:00 p.m. in Room 146.
